Heritage family school is an offspring of a great community effort that started 15 years ago as shalom sunday family school. it is great to see the fruits of this effort in our community today - the two years olds coming to us today are the little children of our first students!

Today heritage family school is a synthesis of shalom sunday experience with the jewish wisdom of heritage russian jewish congregation led by rabbi eliezer dimarsky.

Our school's name reflects the expansion of the school's programs to include deeper study of jewish history, hebrew language and our connection to the land of israel. with the help of rabbi dimarsky from heritage russian jewish congregation we will continue working with our superb team of teachers offering your children the same classes (including music, movement, russian), plus an excellent bar and bat mitzvah program (including preparation and ceremony), hebrew, holiday family programs, retreats and many other programs to respond to your needs.

our mission

  • to provide unique top quality jewish and cultural learning that is meeting the needs of russian jewish families
  • to participate in positive jewish experiences helping families discover and accept their jewish roots.
  • to offer hands-on opportunities for learning about jewish traditions .
  • to make a positive change in often felt negativity about being jewish due to many years of oppression
  • to create an environment that speaks to the values and language russian jewish community identify with in order to foster their ability to sustain the jewish identity of their children.
  • to prevent an increasing influence of the russian speaking messianic groups, leading to high assimilation, inter-marriage and possible conversion to other faiths.
  • to open a venue for immigrant families to integrate into the jewish american community at large by teaching families the basics of main-stream jewish communal life with sensitivity and responsiveness to the special need of this community
  • to create the meaningful context for jewish learning and living in order to form a sustaining jewish identity
  • to teach the concept of tzedakah in order to increase involvement into community charitable projects

we are planning that the heritage family school will serve our russian jewish community and be a family center for vibrant jewish life in chicago and suburbs.
